XVI Encontro Anual e Congresso Internacional AIM (Associação de Investigadores da Imagem em Movimento)
The 16th AIM Annual Meeting and International Conference will be held in person in Funchal from the 1st to the 5th of June 2027, with the support of the Regional Directorate for Archives, Libraries and Books (DRABL) and of the University of Madeira (UMa). The first day will take place at Madeira Regional Archives and Public Library, where we will celebrate the Archives’ Month. Days 2, 3 and 4 will be held in Colégio dos Jesuítas (UMa) and at Centro de Estudos de História do Atlântico – Alberto Vieira (CEHA-AV), with AIM’s habitual conference schedule. Day 5 will be devoted to community outreach activities.
PROPOSAL SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 20 DECEMBER 2026
AIM invites the submission of proposals for papers and pre-constituted panels, in Portuguese, Spanish, or English, focusing on the moving image as a scientific area, including the study and history of cinema, television, video, digital media and arts, and related topics.
Presentation modes (in-person only)
(1) Individual or co-authored presentation (max. 20 minutes);
(2) Pre-constituted panel (3–4 presentations).
Proposals must include the following elements:
(1) name, contact details (email) and institutional affiliation of the author(s);
(2) title of the paper;
(3) abstract between 200 and 250 words;
(4) up to five bibliographic references;
(5) up to six keywords.
Incomplete proposals will not be considered.
Abstracts should include the following elements:
(1) a brief introduction of the object of study;
(2) the research objectives;
(3) the hypothesis/thesis or argument;
(4) a note on the methodology;
(5) the (preliminary) results or conclusions.
All proposals will be assessed by the scientific committee. In order to facilitate the organisation of the conference and ensure the coherence of the panels, we strongly recommend that individual paper proposals be associated with Working Groups (WGs).
Proposals should be assigned to one of the WGs in a dedicated field of the submission form. Information on WGs can be found on the AIM website. Proposals that are not associated with a WG or a pre-constituted panel will be organised into independent panels, following,
wherever possible, thematic criteria.
Each participant can participate cumulatively in the following capacities:
(1) as main author of a paper (responsible for the submission);
(2) as co-author of a paper (submitted by another author – the main author);
(3) as coordinator of a pre-constituted panel;
(4) as chair of a panel;
(5) as discussant of a panel with up to 3 presentations.
If needed, it may be possible to chair more than one panel.
With the exception of panel chair, non-members wishing to participate in any of these capacities must register for the conference.
All proposals must be submitted using the conference form, available here, by midnight (GMT +0h00) of 20 December 2026.
For further information on submitting co-authored papers, organising pre-constituted panels, registration, payment methods and refunds, please refer to the conference general guidelines.
