Undergraduate Degree in Biochemistry

This Undergraduate Degree provides a solid foundation in Biochemistry, incorporating fundamental subjects of both Chemistry and Biology, as well as Mathematics and Computing. It provides knowledge acquisition and the development of laboratorial skills, and other skills such as autonomous and team work. Throughout the degree, the contact with ongoing research in the University of Madeira and student inter university exchange is highly encouraged. The degree not only trains future professionals to transition to a globalised job market, but also gives complementary training, to be completed in a 2nd cycle of studies.

Career Opportunities and Employability

Graduates will be able to carry out duties in Higher Education Institutions, research institutes and centres, companies and industries, in the fields of Biotechnology, environment, Food Sector and Pharmaceutical industry; in laboratories of chemical, biochemical and microbiological analysis; in scientific journalism, in public institutions and regulating bodies.

Candidates may apply via the National Higher Education Access Contest providing they successfully pass one of the required admission exams. Candidates may also enrol via special regimes such as course/institution transfer, through one of the Special Contests in force or the Interntional Student Statute.
