Biographical Notes

I am a Health and Clinical Psychologist with a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Coimbra in 2020; an invited assistant professor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities from Madeira University, where I am also the director of the Master in Clinical, Health and Wellbeing Psychology; and an integrated researcher at the NOVA Laboratory of Informatics and Computer Science. I supervise Master's students from different areas, such as Clinical and Health Psychology, Neuropsychology, Informatics Engineering and Interactive Media Design (6 concluded and 4 undergoing). In 2015, I was awarded a doctoral scholarship from ARDITI, with host institution M-ITI/LARSyS, where I have been involved in an EU project called RehabNet (303891 FP7-PEOPLE-2011). From 2020 to 2022, as a post-doctoral researcher, I coordinated the BRaNT project (PTDC/CCI-COM/31046/2017). In 2021, a project in which I was the co-PI was approved for funding by the FCT: Adaptive Virtual Reality for coping with involuntary early pregnancy loss (EXPL/CCI-INF/0298/2021). I published, mostly as first author, 24 articles in peer-reviewed journals, mostly Q1, such as the Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation, Frontiers in Psychology, Frontiers in Neurology, Journal of Medical Internet Research RAT, Virtual Reality and Games for Health. Additionally, I published 5 book chapters and 18 conference articles, mostly indexed in ACM and IEEE. My research work was distinguished by 9 awards and recognitions, such as runner-up for the early-career award of the International Society for Virtual Rehabilitation, Best Student Paper Commendation in 2014 and 2016 ICDVRAT and Best Student Paper in the 2018 Conference on Applied Psychology and Human Behavior. Recently, I became an Advisory Board Member of the International Journal of Clinical and Health Psychology. As a professor, since 2010, I have taught more than 20 different disciplines, mostly in the scientific domain of Psychology.
