HPTC in Electronic Systems And Electric Facilities

The Higher Technical Professional Course in Electronic systems and Electrical Installations is a higher education course that comprises 4 semesters (2 academic years). It grants students, that have obtained 120 ECTS, a diploma of professional higher technician, which represents a level 5 in the national qualification framework, in the areas of Electricity and Energy, Electronics and Automation.
This course aims at giving solid training in the areas of Electronics and Automation, providing the basics of the areas of Electricity and Energy.
During the course, practical work is highly encouraged and stimulated. Small laboratory projects are conducted to learn the needed concepts, while students are being prepared for team work and for the future internship in corporate environment.
The technicians from this course will be able to:
- Design, specify, schedule and produce electronic systems and equipment;
Elaborate circuits and electrical installations’ schemes, and electronic equipment;
- Design and plan the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical installations of low and medium voltage, of renewable energies, of switchgear, signalization and protection, of electrical power distribution and installation of telecommunications in buildings;
- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance of telecommunications equipment and systems in buildings, using adequate technologies, techniques and instruments, to ensure they are functioning correctly, and respecting the safety norms of people and equipment;
- Install and set up a sensor network;
- Program simple algorithms in microcontrollers for reading and data communication;
- Create budgets related to the execution, maintenance and/or repair of electrical installations, and carrying out material, equipment, labour, and working hours calculations;
- Provide technical assistance to clients, clarifying possible questions about the operation of electrical/electronic equipment and electrical installations;
- Fill out technical documentation and elaborate technical reports related to the developed activity.

Career Opportunities and Employability

Technicians of this course have the possibility of working in any Electronic and Automation company, being able to design and/or repair electronic circuits and equipment. Technicians will also be capable of installing or repairing electric installations of low and medium voltage and will be able to work with renewable energy equipment.
Technicians will also be trained to reconfigure simple sensor networks and to program microcontroller devices or automatons.
The higher technicians from this course can apply for an undergraduate degree related to electronics, being also dispensed from attending some curricular units that may be common to both courses.

Candidates

This course is directed to those who ambition to develop their electrical and electronic skills, like Electronic installations and telecommunications. It is also meant for those who want to learn new concepts related to the area, namely learning to program small microcontrollers, installing a sensor network, learning to program industrial automatons or understanding how a telecommunication network works.
Possible candidates: students that have completed high school education (whether with or without admission exams); students that have applied through the regime meant for students over 23 years old; students with a Technological Specialization course; holders of a higher education diploma (professional retraining).
