Doctorate Degree in Insular Literatures And Cultures

This is an inter-university PHD, based on an agreement between three insular universities, namely University of the Azores, University of Madeira, University of Corsica, and a central higher education institution, the INALCO. It is signed by those representing these four institutions of higher education, attributing the PHD degree.
In the University of Corsica, the course integrates the Doctoral School, which has a long tradition of studying the insular heritage. In INALCO, the course belongs to the Doctoral School, to which the teaching staff, with an important scientific research on the field of insular studies, also belongs.
The course does not have a curricular component. However, students must commit to a training plan proposed by the student thesis’ supervisor and approved by the PhD committee, which includes activities that function as an introduction to scientific research, such as participating in conferences and preparing scientific articles.
Students will be encouraged to work, for a minimum period of one month, in one of the other higher education institutions that attribute the degree, according to a work plan previously agreed with their thesis supervisors.

By the end of this degree, students should:
- Possess an advanced training in the field of insular literatures and cultures;
- Be acquainted with and master advanced research techniques, and apply them to a specific study object, respecting the ethical principles of scientific research;
- Have developed research and writing skills for preparing scientific papers in the field of literary and cultural studies, being able to work autonomously;
- Be able to set down original and quality reading proposals in their area of expertise, contributing to the development of the scientific field of the degree;
- Be able to face unexpected obstacles and situations that may occur during their research, and be able to find adequate solutions for them;
- Be able to promote the results of their research work, for both specialized and non-specialized audiences.

Candidates

Possible Candidates:
- Holders of a master's degree or its legal equivalent, in the fields of Social and Human Sciences;
- Holders of an undergraduate degree, with a noteworthy academic or scientific CV that has been recognized as such by the legal body of higher education establishment, attesting to their capacity to complete this study cycle;
- Holders of a noteworthy academic, scientific or professional CV, that has been recognized as such by the legal body of higher education establishment, attesting to their capacity to complete this study cycle;
