The cycle of studies of the “Doctorate degree in Atlantic Island – history, heritage and legal and institutional framework” is comprised of 6 semesters (3 academic years). Those who obtain 180 ECTS are awarded the title.

The programme of the Doctorate degree in Atlantic Island has three different fields of expertise: Historical and Social Dynamics; Cultural Heritage, and Legal and Institutional Framework.
In Portugal, this cycle of studies is recognized (by means of an official communication from the Directorate-General for School Administration) for the purposes of career progression of teachers in Basic Education (2nd and 3rd cycles) and Secondary Education, for recruitment groups 200 and 400.
