Master's Degree in Local And Regional Studies
This master’s degree aims at providing an advanced training in Local and Regional Studies, while following a multidisciplinary perspective. It enables the conception, intervention and evaluation of projects, in favour of the social and economic, local, and regional development. It requalifies and specializes undergraduates and superior and intermediate frameworks. It tries to answer to the training demand of competent professionals that can answer to the market challenges.
The main skills to be obtained are:
- Knowledge and understanding of political, economic and cultural practices, integrated in legislative, institutional, social, regional and local realities, based in the knowledge-domain provided by several fields of knowledge, history, economy and tourism, geology, culture and art and heritage, linguistics and literature;
- Knowing how to integrate and apply knowledge, to plan, structure and manage projects so it satisfies the needs of the social agents involved;
- Knowing of to define and apply acquisition, evaluation, organization, description and storage policies, as well as preservation, restoration and communication in regional and local institutions;
- Knowing how to communicate personal knowledge, thoughts and underlying conclusions, either to specialists or non-specialists, in a clear manner and without ambiguity;
Stimulate entrepreneurship, especially when it comes to service (re-)organization, rationalization of practices and creation of new career opportunities.

The cycle of studies of the Master’s degree in Regional and Local studies is comprised of 4 semesters (2 academic years). Those who obtain 120 ECTS are awarded the title.

Career Opportunities and Employability
Graduates will be capable of carrying out duties in study and consultancy offices, tourism companies, municipalities and other municipal bodies, local and regional development associations, as well as in public administration. Graduates in the master’s degree of Regional and Local Studies will be qualified to carry out functions as: managers in public and private organizations; senior technicians; researchers and professors in higher education institutions and secondary schools, archivists, librarian and journalists.
Candidates
This degree is aimed at the holders of an undergraduate degree in Social and Human Sciences, International relations and related areas. Candidates may apply if holders of an undergraduate degree or legal equivalent; holders of an international higher academic degree, recognized as meeting the objectives of an Undergraduate degree in the field of electrotechnical engineering; holders of a school, scientific or professional curriculum recognized by head of this cycle of studies, attesting to the ability to the conclusion of the degree.
