Subject: Radio Communications
Scientific Area:
Telecommunications
Workload:
64 Hours
Number of ECTS:
6 ECTS
Language:
Portuguese
Overall objectives:
1 - With this curricular unit is intended that students acquire knowledge about the technologies and solutions commonly used in radio communication systems, including antenna systems, microwave links, satellite communication and radar systems. In antennas are presented the main methods of synthesis of antenna arrays and the issue of measuring antenna parameters using appropriate systems. Despite the increasing deployment of fiber optic systems, radio link relay systems are finding application in scenarios involving rapid deployment and relative low cost of installation and maintenance. The satellite communication systems have played a very important role in the telephone and television transmission and maritime or land. The applications of radar systems have evolved a lot and have application in diverse fields such as meteorology, planetary exploration, air traffic control, remote sensing.
Syllabus:
1 - Antenna systems and measurements: basic synthesis methods of antenna arrays; types of antennas; measuring parameters of the antennas.
2 - Microwave links: propagation elements; fading; analog and digital streams; repeaters; projects links.
3 - Satellite communications: basic concepts; orbit satellites; subsystems of the satellite segment of the satellite; access to satellites; design of satellite links.
4 - Radar: basic concepts; radar pulse; radar motion indicator moving targets and pulsed Doppler effect.
