Overall objectives:

1 - This course unit aims to introduce students to the thematic area of Applied Linguistics. In particular, aspects related to the learning and teaching of German as a foreign language will be more closely examined.
2 - Acquisition of knowledge about basic principles of Syntax and linguistic features and types of Text, also from a contrastive perspective.
3 - This subject should also motivate students for individual language work.
4 - Alongside these linguistic objectives, the practical part of the course will aim at deepening of German language skills (Level Target: B1+ / B2).

Syllabus:

1 - Syntax: What is a sentence? Types of sentences, sentence constituents, sentence models.
2 - Linguistic features of a text type: text-internal (form, theme/content) and text-external (function and context)

Assesssment methods and criteria:

Classification Type: Quantitativa (0-20)

Evaluation Methodology:
Theoretical-practical classes; expositive sessions and discussion of relevant themes. Evaluation: Type A: Continuous assessment (resolution of worksheets in pairs or in groups, a brief oral presentation or mini-project in pairs or in groups on important aspects of a topic linked to syntax or linguistics of the text ...) 50% + a written frequency (50%); Type B: 2 written tests (each 50%) In the Supplementary Season, students with "normal" status (N) will be admitted, if they meet the conditions to recover or improve the written test (Type A) or the test in which they obtained the lowest mark (Type B). Students with working-student status may be assessed in the same way as students with normal status or take a written test of the two partial exams (100%). The continuous assessment cannot be recovered or improved in the Supplementary or Special Season. In the Special Season, students can take a written test (100%) to pass the course unit.
