Overall objectives:
1 - Develop skills for the analysis of fundamental engineering problems, in particular, for the analysis of the global forces, stresses, strains and displacements in linear structural elements (beams and columns) with elastic behaviour.
2 - Develop analysis skills for the elastoplastic analysis of beams and columns subjected to bending.

1 - Stress tensor: three-dimensional representation of stress tensor; Stress at a point on inclined planes; Normal aand tangential stress; Main stress and orientation; Mohr's circle
2 - Strain tensor; three-dimensional components: Deformation - displacement relationship; Average normal and tangential strain
3 - Stress - Deformation Ratio: Mechanical properties of isotropic materials; generalized hooke's law;Plane states of stresses and strains
4 - Axial Stress in Linear elements: Tensile-test Distributions of stress and strain; Stress concentration; Saint-Venant's principle ; Strain energy Virtual Work Principle; Displacement analysis; Force method; Temperatura variations
5 - Bending of linear elements: Pure bending; Distributions of stress and strain; Design of sections; Strain energy; Biaxial bending; Combined bending Central; core Method of successive integrations; Virtual Work Principle; Displacement analysis; Force method; Temperature variations; Heterogeneous elements

Evaluation Methodology:
In the theoretical classes will be presented, deduced and demonstrated the fundamentals and the calculation methodologies that allow the analysis of structures in the scope of the Strength of Materials. In the theoretical-practical classes, exercises will be applied to current structures. Regarding the evaluation, three tests are performed (with weights of 20%, 35% and 45% respectively) in order to assess theoretical and theoretical-practical knowledge. In this way, the student can, during the semester, evaluate their performance and change strategies if necessary. Time of Appeal and Special Season: final exam that covers the various topics of the curricular unit. Students who obtain a classification of more than 17 values are subject to oral test to be able to obtain a final classification higher than 17 values.
