Overall objectives:
1 - The goal of this course is to introduce students to the fundamentals of biomedical engineering, specifically: Getting acquainted with the field of biomedical engineering in its multiple strands, from research to real-world applications.
2 - Learn different medical and biomedical technologies and their application in healthcare and research.
3 - Develop soft skills such as critical reasoning, analysis of cases and oral presentation.

1 - Fundamentals of biomedical engineering.
2 - Role of the biomedical engineer in clinical practice and research.
3 - Imagiology and radiotherapy.
4 - Bioinstruments, sensors and other devices.
5 - Rehabilitation engineering.
6 - Bioinformatics.
7 - Biomechanics.
8 - Biomaterials.
9 - Tissue engineering.
10 - Ethical principles in biomedical engineering.

Evaluation Methodology:
The teaching methodologies are based on 3 fundamental elements: Theory lectures, Lab classes, Monograph with oral presentation. Additionally, the curricular unity is intended to have autonomous work from the students, with the supervision of the lecturer. The evaluation is composed by a number of elements with the following weights: Individual monograph on a topic related to biomedical engineering, with oral presentation - 50%; Exam - 50%.
