Overall objectives:

1 - To understand man as a psychic and social being.
2 - To identify the influence of psychosocial factors and contexts in the psychological and social development of man.
3 - Understand the processes associated with formation and changes in the cognitive and affective structures during the life cycle.
4 - Understand the psychological factors that influence health and adaptation to disease processes. Identify how health behaviors are influenced by socio-cultural contexts and social interactions.

6 - Understanding how social representations and social relations are formed, structured and functioning.
7 - Understand how personal and social beliefs and representations influence health and disease.

Syllabus:

1 - Developmental psychology. Man, as a psychic being. Development and socialization in the life cycle. Theories of human development: Erickson and psychosocial development; Piaget and cognitive development; Freud and psychosexual development; Bowlby; Winnicott and the affective partner development. Brofenbrenner and the socio-ecological perspective.
2 - Psychological structures and processes: Cognition, Perception, Memory, Consciousness, Personality. The acquisition of autonomy and formation of personal and social identity.
3 - Psychological and socio-cultural determinants of health and influence on disease processes. The man, the culture and the society
4 - Socioanthropological consciousness of human nature. Organization, social structures and support in health/illness. Relativism and cultural sensitivity.
5 - Beliefs related to health and illness. Social representations, prejudice and stigma. Adaptive/maladaptive processes in the face of illness.
6 - Strategies and social support networks.

Evaluation Methodology:
Theoretical sessions will be developed in the classroom using visual and didactic audio materials to illustrate and exemplify concrete situations that enable the acquisition of knowledge about the multifactorial nature of health and nursing intervention, highlighting the importance of psychosocial and socio-cultural determinants in health and in the processes of adaptation/maladaptation to the disease. Organization of debates and focus group. Seminar work in subgroups with tutorial orientation whose topics will be selected according to the interests of the students and validated with the teacher. Encouragement to research in appropriate sources with the possibility of performing some exploratory field work with the guidance of the teacher. The evaluation will result from a written test and a seminar paper, each one will weigh 50% for the Curricular Unit grade. Both elements require 9.5 values ​​for CU approval, being recoverable at resource/improvement or special time.
