Undergraduate Degree in Nursing
This degree promotes the development of scientific, technical, human and relational skills. Its main objective it to enable students to be capable of practicing duties related to Nursing.
According to the preamble of the law decree number 353/99, of 3rd of September of 1999, this undergraduate degree aims at “ensuring the scientific, technical, human and cultural training for the provision and management of nursing care to individuals, families, groups and community, during their whole vital cycle, in the various levels of prevention.
This undergraduate degree’s foundation is a training model comprised of theoretical, practical and clinical teaching components. Clinical Teaching is the learning component done in field work, in a practical context of health care and nursing provisions, and where students have direct contact with individuals and groups, whether they are healthy or not.
Admission to this course implies the mandatory fulfilment of the prerequisite of "Group A - Interpersonal Comunication".

The cycle of studies of the Undergraduate Degree in Nursing is comprised of 8 semesters (4 academic years). Those who obtain 240 ECTS are awarded the title.

Career Opportunities and Employability
Graduates will be capable of providing and managing general nursing care, in health care and nursing entities, whether in public, private or liberal institutions. Students will also be able to provide services in education or nursing training programs, and/or develop research in the field.
Candidates
This Undergraduate degree is aimed at those motivated by this professional practice, having as their main objective the promotion of health.
Candidates may apply via the National Higher Education Access Contest providing they successfully passed one of the required admission exams. Candidates may also enrol via special regimes such as course/institution transfer, through one of the Special Contests in force or the Interntional Student Statute.
In the professional practice, nurses are characterized by their training and experience, allowing them to understand and respect others in a multicultural perspective. They focus their attention on the promotion of health projects that people live and follow, showing sensibility, knowledge, and skills related to the profession. Good nursing care have different meanings to different people, having as main foundations humanism, scientific evidence and the professional deontological code. - Nurses Association, 2001
