Overall objectives:
0 - The program objectives for Intervention in Sport (ID) disciplines I and II, are designed to provide the students a training to enable them to assess, prescribe and programme exercise, targeting young and adult populations. More specifically, with the ID I - SPE, it is intended that the future licensee gets skills, requiring:
1 - Knowledge of the benefits and risks associated with physical exercise;
2 - Assessment of health status of the participants, knowing and interpreting the established algorithm for decision making in conformity;
3 - Domain for the energy expenditure associated with the different forms of physical activity and respective equations;
4 - Conceptualization of the evaluation process of physical fitness;
5 - In training component carried out in a gym or similar institution, it is intended that the student observe and experience the greatest number of activities offered in the gym in a work environment in its different aspects.
Syllabus:
1 - Health, Fitness and Performance; Benefits and Risks associated with physical activity; Current guidelines from a public health perspective; risks associated with physical exercise.
2 - Health Status Assessment prior to participation; the application of the PAR-Q+ and HSQ; Assessment of cardiovascular risk factors; Decision taken in accordance with the analysis of the established algorithm.
3 - Energy Costs of Physical Activity; Measuring Physical Activity (AF); Measuring Energy Expenditure; Expressing Energy Expenditure; Equations to estimate the Energy expenditure of Physical Activities; The ACSM equations for determining the metabolic and caloric equivalents.
4 - Principles of Evaluation, Prescription and Adherence to Exercise Programs.
5 - Training practice in a gym or similar institution, experiencing, on the one hand, the different valences and activities that characterize the host institution, and on the other, trying to put into practice the knowledge acquired throughout the course.

Evaluation Methodology:
1. In the theoretical-practical sessions is used the expository method, using additionally the projection of slides, as well as the presentation and discussion of program themes. 2. In the sessions of laboratory practice are used instruments and analytical techniques that allow students to have a closer and more real knowledge of some of the conditions studied. 3. In training activities, students experience multiple activities in a real context, under the guidance of a tutor in the institution and a mentor of the University, meeting the objectives proposed for the discipline. 4. For a student to successfully pass the course, must get cumulatively the following conditions: I) Make the frequency (25%) and obtain a minimum of 9.5; II) have the requisite number (two-thirds) attendance in practical classes; III) to participate effectively in the training activities, deliver and present their report (40% + 25%); and IV) delivery of a written work (10%).
