Undergraduate Degree in Physical Education And Sport

The cycle of studies of the Undergraduate Degree in Physical Education and Sports is comprised of 6 semesters (3 academic years). Those who successfully obtain 180 ECTS are awarded the title.
The main objective of this degree is to provide students with training at the historical, scientific and pedagogical levels, as a way to prepare students to be autonomous, critical and creative professionals in the field of Sport Sciences.
Throughout the degree, students will be in contact with several domains of Physical Activity and Sports. These domains include not only sports activities, but also leisure, recreation, health and tourism.
This Undergraduate degree fosters: the acquisition and development of comprehensive knowledge and skills, analysis and problem solving, within the scope of Physical Activity and Sports; the acquisition of critical analysis skills of research practices within the field; the acquisition of knowledge communication skills, conclusions and reasoning to a specialist or non-specialist audience.
With the conclusion of this Undergraduate Degree, students will be able to apply for the 2nd cycle of studies (master’s degree), that enables the teaching career in the 3rd cycle of Basic and Secondary Schools.
Admission to this course implies the mandatory fulfilment of the prerequisite of "Group E - Functional and physical fitness".

Career Opportunities and Employability

Graduates will be able to: carry out duties as sports manager/director; to program and conduct physical training sessions in sports modalities; to prescribe exercise; promote leisure and sports animation activities; carry out duties in townhalls, associations, Clubs, sports’ entities/companies, Federations, Gyms and Hotels; Creation of sports service provider companies (entrepreneurship).

Candidates

This degree is aimed at those who ambition to develop their knowledge and critical awareness in the areas of Physical Education and Sports, and that feel motivated to promote health, well-being and the improvement of the quality of life. Candidates may apply via the National Higher Education Access Contest providing they successfully passed one of the required admission exams. Candidates may also enrol via special regimes such as course/institution transfer, through one of the Special Contests in force or the Interntional Student Statute.
