80 Hours
Number of ECTS:
6 ECTS
Language:
Portuguese
Overall objectives:
1 - Providing students with basic knowledge of exploratory data analysis, so that they may read or consult studies using statistics, prepare information and carry out studies in their future professional activities.
2 - Providing students with computer skills that will be useful to them in the elaboration of academic papers and in their future professional activities.
3 - Use a word processing application (Microsoft Word) to create various types of documents, change the presentation of existing documents and to use the application to produce web pages and as a tool for mailing.
4 - Create good public presentations using the Microsoft PowerPoint.
5 - Use a spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel) as a tool to calculate, to work with data and to create charts, providing the basis for moving to advanced use.
6 - Create databases using Access and to be able to manipulate data in tables, queries and forms, allowing to work effectively with data.
Syllabus:
1 - Computers and data analysis. Measures of location, of spread and shape. Graphical representation for univariate and for bivariate data.
2 - Text formatting. Creating Tables. Inserting numbered lists and brands. Inserting pictures into documents. Associating hyperlinks. Defining and using styles. Table of contents. Creating documents to be used in Web pages.

Assesssment methods and criteria:
Classification Type: Quantitativa (0-20)
Evaluation Methodology:
Classes will include some theoretical stages, where an introduction or revising of the various contents will be done. A more practical approach will be chosen in which students will have to use the computer to solve the exercises / problems proposed. There will be two practical evaluations: a test of exploratory data analysis with SPSS, which will have a 50% weight in the final assessment, and one practical test about Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access, which will have50 % weight in the final assessment of the course.
