Overall objectives:
1 - This subject is an introductory course for students with no previous knowledge in German Language. The course will allow the student to reach the basic level A1.1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The course books are Ja, gerne, Linie 1 A1.1, Menschen im Beruf and Tourismus A 1 (see Bibliography). Authentic complementary material from the area of Tourism will be made available to the student and worked on throughout the semester. In this subject, students will learn to manage everyday situations in German language and to understand and write simple spoken or written texts. Students will discover grammatical structures in a contrastive way and will pay attention to how the language functions (language awareness). At the end of the semester, students should be able to:
1.1 - use German bilingual dictionaries proficiently
1.2 - extract relevant information from simple written texts
1.3 - introduce themselves and answer questions about themselves in dialogues
1.4 - write short texts.
Syllabus:
1 - Autonomous work from lessons 0-1 of Menschen im Beruf Tourismus A1, 2-5 of Ja, gerne and lessons 6-8 of Linie 1 A1.1, and under the guidance of the lecturer.
2 - Thematic content: greeting and introducing oneself; stating first and last names; Sie/du; the alphabet/lettering; asking questions; naming objects; ordering drinks, giving information on products and prices, understanding simple questions, information, telephone messages and brief dialogues in everyday and professional situations; describing a room, a flat, holiday accommodation; talking about people.
3 - Grammar content: verb tenses (Präsens, Präteritum of the verbs "haben" and "sein"); modal verbs; direct questions (Ja/Nein-Fragen); questions with interrogative pronouns (W-Fragen); definite and indefinitearticles; personal pronouns; non-declared adjectives.
4 - Supplementary work with authentic materials from the areas of Tourism, Culture and Communication.
5 - Preparation for the oral test.

Classification Type: Quantitativa (0-20)
Evaluation Methodology:
Students work in class mostly in the following three variants: individual, with their partner and in groups. Students also will have to speak individually to the rest of the class when they have to report on their work with their partner or group. Lessons will only be frontal when it is necessary to explain some linguistic aspect due to its complexity. The UMa Student Learning Evaluation Policy is followed (Model B). - 80% compulsory attendance to classes - 2 written tests (each, 30%); 1 oral test (30%); attendance and participation (10%) In the Resit Period, students with "normal" status (N) will be admitted who meet the conditions to recover or improve the test in which they obtained the lowest classification (30%). Students with student worker status (T) will be able to recover the two written tests and the oral test (90%) in the appeal period Other element of assessment - participation and attendance (10%) can neither be included nor improved in the resit season.
