Overall objectives:
1 - The UC English B2.1 corresponds to the upper intermediate level of learning of English as a foreign language: according to the common reference level B2.1, strong Vantage Level, of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The objective of this course is the acquisition and improvement by the students - independent users - of linguistic structures, aiming at improving their knowledge of the English language in its various competences at an upper intermediate level. This course is entirely taught in English and its main aim is to develop students' specific language skills, namely the reading, speaking, writing, and listening skills. Students are called upon to participate in a variety of communicative activities to promote their self-confidence in the use of the English language in common situations.

1 - Grammar / Language: Determiners, Nouns, Pronouns, Qualifiers, Possessive case, Word categories, Word formation, Modifiers, Questions, Verb classes, Verb patterns, Prepositions, Simple and complex sentences, Regular and irregular verbs, Main and auxiliary verbs, Modal verbs, Conditionals, Verb tenses, Punctuation, Capital letters, Spelling, Pronunciation, Abbreviations, British English vs American English.

Assesssment methods and criteria:

Evaluation Methodology:
The oral and written production will be developed by individual and pair work. Students should use the support manual, Course and Workbook, which presents activities/exercises to support the consolidation of the material taught in class and 1 systematic study of the structures learned (in levels A1 to B1), performing the recommended grammar exercises (Collins Cobuild Student's Grammar - Self-Study Edition with Answers). It is intended to focus on the development of oral skills, by reading aloud and communicating only in English. Assessment: 80% mandatory attendance at classes; 2 Written frequencies, each, 30%; 1 oral test: 30%; attendance and participation: 10%. In the Season of Appeal, students of "normal" status can recover or improve attendance with a lower classification (40%). Student workers can recover the 2 written frequencies and the oral test: 90% at the time of appeal. Participation and attendance: 10% cannot be recovered or improved during the appeal season.
