Overall objectives:

1 - To understand the relation between Pragmatism and Pragmatics as a subfiled of Linguistics and his Interfaces with several language­ oriented scientific fields (e.g. Anthropology: Social Cognitive Psychology, etc.).
2 - To identify the aim of the study of language use in context and the fundamental concepts belonging to pragmatic's field, such as speech acts, politeness, deixis, presupposition, among others.
3 - To understand the pragmatic explanation of the contextual variation of knowledge and the non­truth conditional aspects of utterance meanings that are determined by situated uses of language as a social activity.
4 - To be able to characterize speech acts and performative utterances, and their connection with the intention­based theories of meaning and referring.
5 - To analyze the principles of verbal interaction: from conversational logic and scalarity's inferences to politeness and relevance theories.
6 - To make cross­cultural and cross­linguistic comparisons of pragmatic language use.

5 - Inferential pragmatics and principles governing verbal interactions.

Assesssment methods and criteria:

Classification Type: Quantitativa (0-20)

Evaluation Methodology:
Two written examination in order to measure knowledge (with weights of 40% and 35% respectively) to specific learning outcomes and competencies and to test candidate ability to organize, compose and write rather than merely recognize or recall. Report of a reading and review on a specific research article, to allow for testing of complex integrated skills related to cognitive learning and to provide student accessing and managing information and the control over sharing knowledge with others (with oral presentation, weighing 25% in the evaluation).
